Apple iPhone 3G Review by Ed Baig USA TODAY Talking Tech - Review

The New Multimedia Wonder- Nokia N96

Labels: , , , , , ,

NOKIA’S new N96 may be what multimedia phone lovers have been waiting for all this while. It is packed with such features as video and TV, Music, maps, photos and the internet. The models is quite big. It is wider & bigger than other N series models and comes with a generous 2.8-inch display which translates into better Multimedia viewing and playback.

The big screen makes web browsing easy as a full web page can fit it nicely on the screen. What’s more, despite it’s bigger size, the N96 can sit comfortably in your palm and be handled with one hand, which makes it practical.

One of the best things about the phone’s display is its ability to adjust itself to suit your viewing. For example, the image will stay vertical to the eye mo matter how the phone is held-vertically or horizontally. A forward slide will reveal a T9 numeric keypad while a backward slide will show a small selection of dedicated music player control keys and wide screen mode selection.

Picture quality-wiser, the 16 million colors display proves its worthiness as images display are excellent, with acceptable brightness and contrast even when the phone is used outdoor. 5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss camera lens with dual-LED flash is a plus. You basically can do away with digital cameras with this huge pixel quality.

A major technological advancement that the N96 brings is the built –in digital video broadcasting-handheld TV tuner, which is enables the phone to receive DVB-H broadcast signals for mobile TV channels . Beside having a DVB-H tuner, the N96 ia a step ahead in connectivity. It comes with Wi-Fi signal finder, USB 2.0, Bluetooth.GPRS,3G, EDGE and high speed downlink packet access, making it one of the most connectable devices available today.

For music lovers, the phone is a noteworthy musical box, supporting a number of music formats. We can sort songs by artiste, album, genre or composer. The only grouse with this N96 is its flat keypad, which makes a nit challenging to tap on the keys. We may need dome time to get used to it

BlackBerry Creates a Storm

Labels: , , , , ,

The smartphone, the Blackberry storm, will be available later this year in selected markets. The storm resembles the iPhone but its colour touchscreen differs in that it is “clickable”. The screen depresses slightly when touched like a typewriter key.
RIM ( maker of the Blackberry) president Mike Lazaridis described the touchscreen as a “truly tactile touch interface” which “ solve the long standing problem associated with typing on traditional touchscreen”.

User Navigate on the touchscreen by using their finger like a cursor, scrolling, highlighting panning and zooming and clicking on selections. Other futures of the storm include wireless e-mail through high speed 3G mobile broadband networks, an HTML web browser which allows audio and video streaming and SMS.MMS and IM messaging.

It also features a media player,a 3.2 megapixel camera,a video camera and GPS capability along with Black berry maps. RIM did not provide a price for the phone or release date except to say it would be available by the Christmas holiday season - AFP

Blackberry Bold – Smartphone For Executive

Labels: , , , ,

A lifestyle product for executive! This gadget retains the pearl trackball of its predecessor that, coupled with sharp half-video graphics array display and the full Qwerty keyboard, provides for a user friendly handling. Side mounted keys give you one click access to key features such as camera and voice dialing, and everything is intuitive to use and simply presented.

There’s six shortcut menu options at the bottom of the screen of the home screen, with one click access to often used features like keyboard lock, messaging, contacts, calendar browsing and maps. For the full menu list, just click the Blackberry soft menu key to get all application icons.

Surfing the internet is a whiz as the Blackberry Bold offers high speed down link packet access data speeds and Wi-Fi. Just like on the PC, a blue bar at the bottom of the screen indicates the loading speed of the web page. Other than functioning like mouse, the trackball can be used to navigate sites in “page view” or “column view” and to easily zoom in and out of content.

Mobile messaging, as expected of Blackberry, doesn’t disappoint in the blackberry Bold. There’s push email that’s compatible with corporate servers. This is in addition to personal email, the ability to download and send attachments, instant messaging with the Blackberry Messenger as well as SMS and MMS.

“Actually there are many new functions in this version that we can explore by our self. “

iPhone 3G is the Pick Of The Year

Labels: , , , , ,

APPLE's iPhone 3G has won a public vote to find the years best gadget, beating strong competition from three games consoles,a budget laptop and balloon-shaped iPod speaker system. The last version of the mobile that combines a phone with music and video player was chosen by readers of stuff magazine in its annual Gadget of the year awards.

The magazine described the iPhone 3G as "a faster, cleverer, version of an already remarkable phone".The phone's first incarnation, launched in Britain last year, won the coolest gadget prize at last years ceremony.

Other nominees included Sony's Playstation 3, Microsoft's Xbox 360,Nintendo's Wii Fit and the B & W Zeppelin iPod speakers. As stuff's Editor Fraser said: the nominated products were judged on their performance, designed and value, as well as "that elusive cool factor".They are the one out there on the street buying gadgets and so they are a great barometer. "Having our readers vote for a number of the awards has been fascinating" he said.

The magazine's own Gadget of the year prize, chosen by editorial staff, went to the Asus Ee Pc, a no-frills lap top that cost less than 300 pounds. The judges said it had made more of an impact than any other device and marked the start of a "laptop for everyone era". What's New In Ipod 2.0 Update

Labels: , , , ,

The Apple App Store may be the most obvious addition to the recent iPod touch v2.0 software update, but the firmware update also also introduce some less obvious ( but welcome ) tweaks to the existing applications.

Search able Contact .

People with hundreds of contacts will be happy to know that with v2.0 the contact list is now search able by just typing in the first few letters of person's name.

Multi-language support / input

With Global introduction of the iPhone 3G, the iPode also benefits from the multilanguage support built in to the new v2.0 software.
While there is the more conventional Pinyin method input, Aple has also added pretty coll handwriting feature where we can just use our finger to write out.

Scientific Calculator

Ipod has gained an update calculator. The same old calculator ( but with a slightly update button designed ) still exist when you hold the iPod in portrait mode. However,
if we turn it to landscape mode, the calculator automatically turns into a full-fledged scientific calculator with everything you'd expect .

Rotating Video

For previous firmware,When we launched a Quicktime video from a link in the Safari browser,it will open the built-in video player for you. Video opened in this manner could rotate to follow your screen orientation, but strangely enough, for video stored on the iPod,the auto-rotate was not available. v2.0 solves this quirk and cow videos will rotate to follow the two possible landscape orientation.

More than .com

As we probably know, the iPod touch's software Qwerty keyboard changes it's layout slightly depending on what application you have open at the time. For example, we get an extra".com" button when we select the address bar in safari.
v2.0 of the keyboard is slightly enhanced. While the ".com" button is still there, if we we hold it down for about 2 seconds, a new pop-up will appear with all the popular suffixes,namely".net", "org" and "edu."

Saving Images

When we are talking about safari, the browser itself has a few little tweaks, most important of which is the ability to save images from the web. To do this, all we have to do is tap and hold on photo for a couple of seconds, after which menu we pop up prompting you to save image.

Screenshots

A little less useful for the normal consumer but very useful for reviewers and software developers is the ability to take screenshots right on the iPod itself. To do this, all we have to do is hold down the Home button and while holding it down, quickly press the power button on top of the iPod.This will take a screenshot and save it as a PNG file into a special folder called saved Photos, which is the sane folder for images saved from Safari.

Portable Pleasure - The iPod and Earbud Carrying Case

The iPod has revolutionized the music industry, from how music is sold, packaged and enjoyed. Never before has so much music been offered in such a small package, and never has one device dictated the progress of an entire artistic movement. However, the iPod truly is a small package, and an expensive package at that; like any hard drive or computer, the hundreds of dollars spent on it can easily be wasted if the device is not cared for properly. While Apple has improved the durability of the iPod, it still cannot withstand constant abuse; crushing it, dropping it or exposing it to water or extreme heat is a sure death sentence. Thankfully, the market for iPod cases is flourishing, and listeners can easily invest in the protection of their iPods as well.

However, what many individuals forget is that the iPod is useless without its headphones. Many users purchase higher-quality earbuds in order to truly take advantage of the iPod's capabilities: earbuds that reproduce the entire spectrum of music, from the lowest bass to the highest treble. These headphones should be protected as well with the purchase of an iPod and earbud carrying case, because an iPod is nothing without sound.

The Many Shapes and Sizes

While the iPod itself can be protected with sleeves, metal cases, knit socks and various other rubber products, this usually leaves the headphones exposed to the elements. Other carrying cases, while not designed to protect the iPod while in use, do not always have enough extra room for earbuds, cables and other accessories. However, an iPod and earbud carrying case will protect both investments. Often times, the iPod and earbud carrying case will include a separate compartment for the earbuds, so the two pieces do not get jostled together. Other times, the carrying case is physically split into two separate cases: one to hold the iPod, the other to hold the earbuds. The earbud case can even attach to a keychain for easy access, and constant availability: unless the user forgets his or her keys, the earbuds will always be in reach.

Earbuds are popular due to their compact size. Traditional headphones are rigid; they cannot fold up, and they take up space equal to the size of the user's head. Earbuds are a lot simpler; they are simply two speakers attached to the cables that fit snuggly into the ear. Often times they come complete with multiple inserts to fit the wide range of ear sizes. But the cables can easily tangle, and the inserts can be lost in the hustle and bustle of life. An iPod and earbud carrying case, however, will keep the earbuds safe, orderly and in one piece. The earbuds can also be wound on a kind of reel, a kind of iPod and earbud carrying case truly designed to prevent tangles in the cables and connections.

An iPod and earbud carrying case is available to purchase from numerous manufactures, including Apple and many companies specializing in the production of speakers and headphones. This case is also available in many colors and materials, from nylon to leather and from black to purple. It all depends on the needs of the user, and the type of protection he or she seeks: waterproof or padded, keychain or reel. In the end, however, an iPod and earbud carrying case is almost as important an investment as the iPod itself.
